I get this response a lot in the facial room..
Me: Do you wear sunscreen?
Client: Yep! It’s in my makeup.
Here’s the thing.
Technically yes, the SPF in your foundation does in fact have sunscreen in it, and thus can protect your skin from the sun.
You must make sure you’re using about a nickel-sized amount of that foundation to receive those sunscreen benefits.
But there’s more..
And just like going to the beach, you've gotta re-apply your SPF with the same nickel-sized amount every 2 hours. Otherwise, you are truly NOT getting the sunscreen protection you think you are getting.
Silver lining? Instead of relying on your makeup for sun protection, apply a moisturizer with a broad spectrum, SPF 30 sunscreen instead. This guarantees that your face (and fingers crossed neck + décolléte) will be protected.
If you prefer organic sunscreen, I recommend Biossance squalane + mineral 45. If you have no preference, check out Supergoop superscreen daily moisturizer SPF 40.
And if you like that foundation with SPF, you can still wear it! Just know that it is not meant to replace sunscreen completely.
